If any lessons are to be learned from the eyesore located in the centre of Brodick, it is that unoccupied and unmaintained buildings rapidly fall into a state of dereliction that detracts from the entire village’s aesthetic.

The historic former Whiting Bay Hotel building is architecturally beautiful and it unquestionably deserves to be saved. It would be a shame for the village, and a great loss for islanders, if it were to follow the path of the former Whitehouse Hotel in Lamlash.

Significant expense and effort has already gone into making the project a success and it is possible that the efforts by Whiting bay Community Benefit Society may be the one and only chance left to save it.

In fact, their efforts go much further than just saving an old building, their primary ambition is to great a facility that the village can, once again, be proud of and one that will also serve as a community hub and focal point of sorts.

And then there is the community cohesion aspect of the project, restoring the building into a hotel will provide employment, and attract visitors to the village.

If you are able to, consider showing your support, and help breath new life into Whiting Bay Hotel.
