Supermarket giant Aldi is looking for potential locations to establish new stores and has launched a nationwide initiative to find prime locations.
The retailer, the fourth largest supermarket chain in the UK, currently has more than 1,000 stores – including seven in Ayrshire – with future plans to increase its property portfolio by at least 500 more stores in the UK.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make high-quality food accessible to everyone, but there are still some areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have potential for more stores.
“We’ve identified some key places where there is demand for more stores already, but now we are calling on the public to share their views. This will be used to help inform our property search over the coming years.”
Suggestions for new locations can be made by emailing NextNewStore@Aldi.co.uk with details outlining why you believe the area needs a new Aldi store.
Areas which receive the most suggestions will be considered for a new Aldi store.
Arran does not meet the minimum requirements of having a population of 15,000 or more, however, the retailer has said: “We are willing to explore all opportunities including developer-led schemes and existing or new retail units.”
Other requirements include a site of at least two acres, close to or near a town centre and located close to a main road with good visibility and access.
Areas where the supermarket is actively seeking to establish stores include Springburn, Clarkston, Glasgow Fort, Bonnyrigg, Barnton, Blantyre, Newhouse and Dumbarton.
Suggestions should be submitted by May 31 with the supermarket saying it will update customers with the results later this year.
