Police have seized drugs with an estimated value of £85,800 after a cannabis farm was discovered in Campbeltown.
The cultivation was found in a Main Street property after a fire broke out in a nearby flat.
Emergency services were called out shortly before 9am on Thursday March 7 after a passer by noticed smoke coming from the front door of a second floor residence at 26 Main Street.
Two engines from Campbeltown Fire Station raced to the scene, where two fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and discovered flames in a small room.
Using the fire engine’s main jet, they worked quickly to extinguish the blaze within about five minutes.
A second team, also wearing breathing apparatus, then entered and searched the smoke-filled flat, as other fire fighters gained access to the apartment below to limit water damage from above, as well as evacuating neighbouring properties.
The fire service was in attendance for about two hours, making the property safe and checking for hot spots around the location of the fire, in addition to ventilating neighbouring premises, before returning to the station at about 11am.
It is believed to be around this time that police discovered the cannabis cultivation in a property within the block.
Fire fighters were called back to the scene about 12.30pm and remained there for the next two and a half hours, helping police officers and partner agencies including energy company SSE, and making the properties that were entered safe.
A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Courier enquiries into the cannabis cultivation are ongoing and no arrests have been made yet, adding the fire is not being treated as deliberate.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by a small electrical heater.
