Teenage rugby star Feorlin Renton took on a special challenge in memory of the late Scotland international Doddie Weir to raise money for five charities close to her heart.
Starting at 5am on Sunday, Feorlin walked from her home town of Inveraray up to the Watch Tower above the Royal Burgh and back five times as part of her Big 5 Challenge.
She was accompanied by friends and family, who encouraged her to complete the five laps despite the foggy day, to raise funds for The Beatson, Glasgow Children’s Hospital, The Wooden Spoon Children’s Rugby Charity, My Name5 Doddie Foundation and Inveraray Pier Fund.
Feorlin also held a coffee morning the day before in the Nicol Hall to help boost the fundraising.
Her JustGiving page, a raffle and a second for a signed and framed Glasgow Warriors jersey donated by Ali Carberry and her fellow administrator of Glasgow Warriors Supporters’ Forum – due to be drawn on Friday – has raised just over £600 so far.
Feorlin said: “I’m so thankful to those who have supported the ‘Big 5 Challenge,’ for five very deserving charities.
“To everyone who attended the coffee morning, handed in donations, bought raffle tickets for either raffle, thank you. Also to the local shops and individuals who donated prizes for the raffle, and shared their words of encouragement, thank you all very much.
“I’d like to also thank Margaret Mather for her support and the Nicol Hall Committee for their generous use of the hall. I’d also like to mention my friend Lachlan Smeaton for walking with me on Sunday morning and also my brother Kyle, my Nannie Mo [Maureen Renton] and especially my dad, who walked all five trips with me on Sunday.
“I used to help my Nannie Meg with her annual coffee morning in the Nicol Hall and it has been a privilege to continue fundraising in her memory. There has been a lot of amazing fundraising happening in our community recently and I am so grateful to everyone who has contributed."
