A small tea was held at the 40-room residential home on Monday to mark the formal handover of the operation of the 40-room residential home from HC-One, Britain's largest care home operator, to the HSCP.
The HSCP provided the funding for the purchase of Kintyre Care Home but as it is a partnership between Argyll and Bute Council and NHS Highland, it cannot legally own the centre in its own right, therefore the council agreed to take legal responsibility for the building.
“I would to thank everyone involved in the work around making this a reality,” said Caroline Cherry, head of adult services (health and community care) for the HSCP. “It has been a great example of partnership working between Argyll and Bute Council, the HSCP and also HC-One. This has ensured that we will continue to have residential and nursing care beds in the Kintyre area.
“I am also really pleased for the residents and their families, for the staff who have transferred employment to the council and the NHS, and also for the local community.”
Councillor Amanda Hampsey, Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for care services, added: “We acknowledge and understand the importance of families having their loved ones as close to home as possible.
"I am therefore delighted that the hard work of the HSCP and Argyll and Bute Council has achieved saving this vital facility.
“It was a great privilege to be at the home on Monday to speak with residents and their families, as well as meet the staff and experience first-hand the excellent care that is provided by Kintyre Care Home.”
