The Banavie men were dominating collisions now, gaining significant metres with every possession. Man of the match Liam Ryan led the way with his direct running from the flank.
The next possession resulted in a long delay to proceedings with a serious injury to prop Aaron McGhee.
Both teams left the field whilst McGhee received treatment and, as he headed for the ambulance to applause from spectators and players, a royal wave from the stretcher showed he was still able to show humour through the pain.
The final ten minutes of the first half saw Lochaber stretch their lead when a penalty was kicked to the corner. From the resulting lineout, the forwards caught and drove the maul over the line allowing number eight Chris Simpson to add the third try. Davies again made the conversion for a 21-0 half time lead.
Lochaber continued the direct approach in the second half, with Callum MacDonald brushing off would-be tacklers and gaining territory on every run.
After a series of direct hits through the middle, the ball was shipped wide where Hinchcliffe dotted down for his second and Lochaber’s fourth try, securing the bonus point for the league.
Shawlands got on the board with a try following a series of penalties from the hosts.
MacDonald’s direct running led to the fifth score of the game for Lochaber with support running from lock Douglas MacRae allowing him to receive the offload and dive over under the posts. Davies slotted the conversion.
Shawlands were again to benefit from Lochaber errors for their second score, giving the coaching team something to work on for the men in black and yellow. Once more, the conversion was missed.
The hosts were not yet done scoring and more direct running and offloading allowed winger Davy Duncan, now playing on the flank, to score under the posts. Davies converted the try.
The final score came courtesy of Simpson getting his second, picking from the back of a scrum to run over the top of the visiting winger.
The result means Lochaber progress to the semi-finals of the West Bowl cup competition as well as gaining five league points to remain in fourth place with a significant number of games in hand over their rivals.
