Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup first round
Kilmallie 2 Fort William 5
Fort William captain Victor Smith returned from injury, coming off the substitutes’ bench to inspire his side to recover from two goals down to beat Kilmallie at Canal Parks.
Kilmallie’s Innes Blackhall and Jay MacLeod both missed the earlier league meeting between the sides, which Fort William won 4-0, but they were back for this one.
Fort William started three brothers - Cam, Arran and Struan Stephen. Lewis Morrison remained out injured.
Calum MacDougall gave Kilmallie the lead on 10 minutes, tucking the ball low to keeper Paul MacKay’s right following a quick break forward.
Ben MacKinnon put Kilmallie two up just before 30 minutes had been played. Calum MacDougall juggled the ball down the Kilmallie right before Shane O’Rua flicked it over his head and MacKinnon ran in to tuck the ball home at the back post.
Victor Smith came off the bench late in the half and pulled a goal back a minute after the re-start, taking a touch to lift a Lachie Shaw ball from the right away from a couple of defenders before crashing a shot home on his left side.
Cam Stephen levelled the contest on 61 minutes after Lachie Shaw found Victor Smith in a central position. Smith showed good stick work before flicking the ball to the left where Cam Stephen smashed the ball into the net on his left side.
Fort William took the lead four minutes later when Sean MacLellan won the ball in midfield and sent it long. A neat flick and turn got Victor Smith away from Robbie MacFadyen and he blasted the ball over the right shoulder of keeper Shane Gillies to make it 3-2.
Ryan Boyle added a fourth with 20 minutes remaining. Cam Stephen’s ball from midfield was quickly played on by Victor Smith and Boyle hit the ball early from the left to score.
Victor Smith was involved in everything, proving too hot to handle for the Kilmallie defence, and he completed his hat-trick on 76 minutes. Calum Shepherd found Smith around 22 yards from goal, just right of centre, and he jinked before turning and hammering the ball home.
Fort William co-manager Alan Knox said: “We never performed to our standard in the first half and Kilmallie took their chances.
“Victor has recovered from his injury but isn’t yet 100 per cent match fit, but he came on at the end of the first half and showed his qualities with a captain’s performance. We are glad to have him back.
“We changed tactics in the second half and dominated much of the game after that.
“Although we won, we are aware the first half performance needed to be better.”
Ardnamurchan 0 Inverness 5
Inverness were winners against Ardnamurchan at Strontian.
Early goals from Ruaridh Hughes on three minutes and Ewan Campbell a couple of minutes later settled the visitors into the tie.
Skye Mackintosh made it 3-0 on 26 minutes and Ruaridh Hughes got his second nine minutes into the second half.

Ryan Harrison and returned to Skye’s starting side after being rested against Inverness the previous week, but John Gillies and Ross Gordon remained out injured. Ross MacKinnon was only able to take a place on the bench.
Fifteen-year-old Iain MacInnes kept his place in the starting line-up following his scoring debut the previous weekend and another promising youngster, Oliver Langlands, debuted from the bench.
Kyles Athletic’s James Pringle faced his former club for the first time but another ex-Skye player, Will Cowie, missed out with a hamstring tear.
Skye took the lead on six minutes when Iain MacInnes touched on Ross Nicolson’s corner from the right and Jamie Gillies rifled the ball home. Keeper Millar got his hand to the ball but couldn’t keep it out.
On 22 minutes, all four Skye forwards were involved as Kenny Cushnie finished well on the angle from the left.
Kyles pulled a goal back a minute into first half stoppage time, with Luke Thornton turning the ball home following Roan MacVicar’s corner from the left.
Kyles made positional changes at the break including Ross MacRae going to full centre and Roddy MacDonald pushing up front and they went on to enjoy their best period in the match, levelling on 54 minutes.
The goal came following a quick break forward as Roddy Macdonald’s ball was played on by Roan MacVicar and Scott Macdonald scored from wide on the left to make it 2-2.
With William MacKinnon forced to leave the field with a broken finger in the first half, the hosts lost Ryan Harrison on the hour with a hamstring injury.
Skye regained the lead on 53 minutes when Dan MacDonald found the corner of the net with a great turn and shot low to the keeper’s left to make it 3-2.
There were late chances at both ends with Scott MacDonald and James Pringle going close for the Tighnabruaich men, whilst Skye’s Iain MacInnes hit the inside of the post to the keeper’s right.
Sam MacPhee has been a stand-out in Skye’s defence this season and he said: “We worked hard to shut down their attacks, but the boys were terrific all over the pitch, especially the centre line.
“We had to re-jig things when Ryan went off and Dan showed again what he can do with a great winner. It’s a pity about the injuries though.”
Caberfeidh 2 Kinlochshiel 0
Caberfeidh scored twice in the first half to beat Kinlochshiel 2-0 at Castle Leod.
Caberfeidh included Ben MacDonald but missed the injured Connor MacGregor. They were also without Connor Golabek and Logan Beaton. Kinlochshiel’s keeper Josh Grant was unavailable, so Paul MacRae played in goal.
Archie MacRae and Jordan Fraser were also missing but Finlay MacRae returned following a knee injury.
Caberfeidh took the lead on 15 minutes when a high ball fell kindly for Craig Morrison who blasted home.
It was Morrison again on 39 minutes, scoring following a free-hit from midfield.
The earlier throw-up time allowed the Kinlochshiel players to attend the wedding of former teammate Oliver MacRae. Afterwards Kinlochshiel boss Willie MacRae said: “We were poor today; we just didn’t click. We didn’t test their keeper and seemed to be trying to walk the ball into the net at times.
“Paul MacRae could do nothing about their goals.”
Lochaber 3 Lovat 3
Stuart Callison’s goal a minute from time earned Lochaber a point in their draw with Lovat at Spean Bridge.
Lochaber’s Gregor Cameron and Lovat’s Lorne MacKay both missed out as they started three-game suspensions following their red cards the previous week.
The sides exchanged first half goals with Stuart Callison putting Lochaber ahead on 26 minutes and Lewis Tawse levelling straight from the re-start.
Lochaber went back in front on 32 minutes through Ben Delaney, but Lovat came back again as Marc MacLachlan made it 2-2 a couple of minutes later.
