Oban MMA ventured to Stirling University with a team of seven competitors, predominantly newcomers with less than a year of training.
Among more than 180 athletes at the second Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Scotland grappling tournament, Reece Douglas, aged 17, making his competition debut, won gold in his division through a points victory.
Although Jamie Summers and Cody McCulloch competed in the same division, the draw meant they avoided each other, with Jamie finishing third and Cody securing the silver medal.
Ryan Halliday, a first-time competitor, also secured third place while Adam Cummings won his first match but fell short in his second. Joseph Ridley succumbed to a kimura submission, albeit gaining valuable mat time.
Despite the challenges, the club finished tenth out of 39 teams, showcasing the competency and competitiveness of the Oban outfit against more seasoned opponents.
"These boys surpassed my expectations as they have been training less than a year," said Oban MMA head coach Coogie Potter.
"The achievement of securing medals, particularly for such young participants, bodes well for the club’s future endeavours."
