The Gallus Brass Quintet, which was scheduled to perform as invited guests of Music Arran last month, hopes it will have better luck next weekend after its previous performance was cancelled as a result of ferry cancellations.
The ensemble of Glasgow-based freelance musicians will now perform its wide-ranging repertoire of playing styles, from classical to jazz to modern, on Saturday May 11 at 7.30pm in Brodick Hall.
Although disappointed to have its previous performance cancelled unexpectedly, the group is eager to have another chance to perform for an Arran audience.
The quintet is made up of Mark Elwis and Leo Brychta on trumpets, Gabriella Rodriguez on horn, Dylan Findlay on trombone and Owen Pickering on bass trombone.
Gallus Brass Quintet was formed in autumn 2021 as the musicians were completing their postgraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
The band has since gone on to perform in venues across Scotland and Europe. Recent shows include a rooftop concert at the Victoria International Arts Festival in Gozo, Malta, and a highly commended performance in the David James Brass Prize.
The quintet draws inspiration from a variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, musical theatre, pop and contemporary works.
Its Arran programme will include: William Tell Overture – Rossini; Wild Loch Lomond Mountain Thyme - Robert Newth; Highlights from West Side Story - Leonard Bernstein, Jack Gale; Caledonia - Dougie MacLean, Mark Elwis and a selection of Gershwin songs and Burns on the March - Robert Burns, Euan Scott.
Tickets are available on the night. As usual for all Music Arran performances, under 18s have free entry.
