Renowned architectural historian, journalist and Country Life writer Mary Miers has been revealed as the speaker at the next Local History Society illustrated talk on Monday April 1.
Mary lives on the Black Isle and has strong associations with Lochaber, having spent lengthy periods in the area researching her book An Illustrated Architectural Guide which covers the whole of the region.
Such was the success of this book in 2008 that it is now out of print and second-hand copies are rare and expensive.
In Monday’s adventurous talk, she will present some of the key themes of her most recent book, Highland Retreats: The Architecture and Interiors of Scotland’s Romantic North.
Little known material, combined with superb images, will shed new light on some of Britain’s most remote and outlandish houses in a talk that will both delight and shock, but also dispel many myths.
Mary will include many of the fine historical buildings in Lochaber, as well as taking her audience further afield to explore nearby architectural gems in the Highlands.
This talk is highly recommended for all with an interest in the architecture and interiors of the Highlands. It will be held in the Highland Cinema in Cameron Square, Fort William, and is the last of the current session.
It is sure to be busy so anyone interested in going along is being advised to arrive before 7.45 if they can.
