Environmental charity Arran Eco Savvy will be hosting three free events aimed at helping residents take advantage of energy efficiency measures and to share information about grants and technologies.
The series of events will start on February 28 at the Lochranza Centre between 1.30 and 4.30pm, where attendees will be able to meet installers of new green solutions and learn how to secure funding for it.
Additionally, visitors will be able to see existing installations of solar panels, hybrid heat pumps and other green technologies.
On Wednesday March 6, at Ormidale pavilion, Brodick, between 9am and noon, attendees can enjoy a number of presentations by energy and carbon neutral experts.
The final event on March 19, also at Ormidale pavilion, between 5 and 7pm, will allow visitors to speak to experts about energy options for their home or business.
Eco Savvy representative Juliette Walsh said: “Arran Eco Savvy is excited to be providing information and contacts to businesses and householders about energy improvements to their properties.
“We encourage new participants interested in eco energy improvements to come along and find out what their initial steps to a warmer, more environmental and cost-effective home may be. Three engagement sessions are scheduled on the back of previous learning and recommendations from recent engagement work.
“The energy team is ready to support the island community to make connections and find answers to common concerns."
The events will highlight the success of the Lochranza Centre, which has adopted green technologies and is reaping the benefits.
Stuart Blake, director at the Lochranza Centre, said: “As a community interest company and an educational establishment, we feel we should be flying the flag for green initiatives that benefit us and the planet. That said, we could not do it without help from North Ayrshire Council and HIE with match funding from ourselves.
“Currently we have two electric minibuses, probably the first for any centre in the outdoor sector. We also have several air to air heat source pumps installed by Arran Electrical and two solar systems. One has 12 panels and the other has 50 panels, plus batteries to help hold the energy supplied by Green Home Systems, an Ayrshire based company.
“We are also investigating other options. Essentially we feel government targets for renewables in Scotland are not ambitious enough. If you cannot get Arran to go green by 2030 what chance for the rest of the country?
“It is hoped the changes we have made over winter will half the power use of one our buildings which also is home to the Geopark public interpretation room.
“We extend an open invitation to people who are interested but worried about undertaking such a project.”
Arran Eco Savvy aims to bring together the latest know-how to help householders and businesses decide their next cost saving and planet saving steps. This includes arranging visits to alternative energy examples, providing information about the latest funding grants and facilitating contact between available installers including the island-based workforce.
