A community hub is throwing open its doors for people to come together and cheer on a local man as he takes on the London Marathon for a lifeline health facility which serves all of Argyll and Bute.
Scott McMillan is running the famous course for the Snowdrop MS Centre in Lochgilphead - and supporters are being invited to roar him on.
The Ardrishaig man, who now lives near Glasgow, has run marathons before but hopes to beat his personal best of three hours 34 seconds at the London Marathon next Sunday.
His start time on the day is 10.09am so Paula Cameron will be opening the MS Centre in Campbell Street at 10am for people to head along and follow his progress on a YouTube live stream.
There will be tea, coffee, soup, sandwiches and cakes, with donations invited for the charity.
Scott’s close friends and family will be in London on the day to offer encouragement and cheer him over the finish line. The big-hearted local has already raised in excess of £3,600 for the centre through his JustGiving page, but every penny counts as the charity looks to stay afloat.
On Saturday, Scott’s friends and family came to Lochgilphead and held a fun run from the centre, followed by a ladies’ night in the evening which raised in excess of £650.
The facility in Lochgilphead supports people of all ages from across the local authority area with a vast range of conditions.
Karen McCurry, centre manager, is also putting her best foot forward to help the cause. She will be taking part in the 23-mile Glasgow Kiltwalk on April 28 with her husband Brian and her JustGiving page is currently sitting at just over £4,000.
Karen said: “We are so grateful to the whole community for getting behind us. It was lovely to see the Riverside Rascals nursery taking on their own challenge to support Scott and we can’t say thank you enough.
“Our Tuesday morning exercise group is also taking on a challenge where members will be doing 26 minutes of activities to match Scott’s 26 miles; it’s just brilliant the way the whole community has rallied behind us.”
