As part of Dalintober Primary School’s journey towards achieving a third Sportscotland Gold Award, the pupil sports council decided to add a new athletic event to its calendar.
With the aim of creating a competitive, accessible and fun event, the inaugural Dalintober Triathlon/Duathlon took place on March 26 over three locations – Aqualibrium Leisure Centre, the all-weather pitch at Kinloch Green and within the school itself.
It was a tightly-fought contest and produced outstanding performances across the disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
The first three teams all comprised P7 pupils, with the winning team’s points tally being 9347, and second and third places close behind on 8942 and 8892 respectively.
P5 pupils pulled out all the stops to take fourth and fifth places with the incredibly close teams scores of 8626 and 8624, while a trio from P6 took sixth place with 8399 points.
A school spokesperson said: “Dalintober’s pupil sports council would like to thank AG Autos for the medals, Rhona McSporran at Aqualibrium for organisational advice, Greg Scally for rising to the challenge, Lindsay Ramsay of Active Schools, Rhys Blair for transporting the bikes and the youth work team for participation, music and motivation.
“We would also like to thank staff team members for taking part and we can’t wait for our next exciting challenge to help promote activity in our school!”
