Skipness is looking neat and tidy thanks to the hard work of 25 village hall volunteers who turned out to give the area a spring clean.
It was one of several community clean-ups held across Argyll in recent weeks as part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful and Keep Britain Tidy spring clean initiatives.
In Skipness, volunteers of all ages collected 25 bags of litter plus a number of other items including five fish boxes.
Kerry Mackay, beaches and marine litter project education officer for Mid Argyll, Kintyre, Oban, Lorn and the Isles for environmental charity The GRAB Trust, thanked all those who have helped to tidy-up their towns and villages.
She added: “Remember, anyone can borrow GRAB Trust litter pick equipment for free to do their own clean-ups. Simply find your nearest equipment on the map here: tinyurl.com/LitterPickEquip or email us at info@grab.org.uk.
“We also still have some funds for GRAB clean-up grants – groups can apply for a grant in advance of their event and see further details at www.grab.org.uk/beachc.html”
The GRAB Trust team has had a busy start to the year, so far holding workshops for 779 children throughout Argyll.
The charity also celebrated British Science Week by teaming up with Argyll and Bute STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust to create the ‘Rubbish STEM Challenge’.
Aimed at schools and youth groups, an activity pack guides participants through 10 activities to learn about waste, rubbish and its impacts, and there are also several competition categories.
The competition entry period has been extended so there is still time to take part – visit www.canva.com/design/DAF5p2tCOVk/ZDPno1FJ9DBFrKuduk8s5w/view to download the challenge pack and see if you can come up with the winning entry!
