A talented local sporting star has helped Scotland to an historic fourth consecutive victory in the British Isles Indoor Bowls Council’s men’s under-25 international series.
Craig Kerr was part of the national team that lifted the Joyce Bimble Trophy for a record fourth time running after beating England by one shot (74-73) in last Sunday’s final.
Craig, who has been part of the triumphant team for three of the last four years, said: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted. It was a privilege to be selected and to play with a great bunch of guys.”
This is the final time the 24-year-old, whose birthday is in April, will be eligible to play for the under-25s but he hopes to work hard and one day qualify for the men’s senior team.
Craig grew up in Campbeltown and first played bowls at the town’s Argyll Bowling Club as an ambitious eight year old.
He moved to Glasgow when he was 19 to study at the University of Strathclyde and currently plays for Glasgow Indoor Bowling Club, where last weekend’s final was held.
Now living in Hamilton and working as a civil engineer, Craig still enjoys playing at Argyll Bowling Club when he returns home.
Craig’s parents Kenny and Alison said they are “so proud” of their son, adding: “He is going from strength to strength."
