Four fire engines are still at the scene near the A828 as crews continue to tackle the blaze after the alarm was raised just before 1.30pm today.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.28pm to reports of a large fire in the open near Connel.

"Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances to the scene, near the A828, where firefighters remain working to extinguish the fire which has taken hold of a large section of grass and gorse.

"There are no reported casualties."

Drivers have reported long tailbacks on the roads approaching the scene, with diversions in place. The smoke from the fire, which is believed to have spread from a controlled blaze in a garden, has also caused disruption at Oban Airport.

The bridge has now reopened.
