Argyll and Bute Council’s decision to increase council tax, followed by its u-turn announcement, continues to make headlines this week, as the opposition group bids to take control of the local authority.
While opposition councillors refer to the council tax situation as a “debacle” and a “reckless” and “unnecessary mess”, Councillor Alastair Redman of the administration group has described the latest news as a “great victory” for local democracy.
Regardless of how we, or those elected to represent us, view the current state of affairs, it seems everyone is in agreement that what is needed now is for councillors to work together in the best interests of Argyll and its residents.
Whether that involves a change in council leadership or not, we hope the future will allow everyone to focus on the positive goings-on in our communities, including Campbeltown’s Mae Barr being named Scotland’s best intermediate brass soloist.
Well done also to the other Campbeltown Brass musicians who received gold and silver awards at last Saturday’s championships.
These results are testament to the commitment all the youngsters and their tutors continue to dedicate to perfecting their art.
