A new medieval weekend event was a huge success with visitors.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES), who manage the site, invited people to come along on May 5 and find out more about the tumultuous events between the powerful Bruce and Macdougall families that contributed to the creation of one of the most powerful clans in Scotland, the Campbells.
Dunstaffnage Castle served as the stronghold of the MacDougalls, built before 1240 on a huge rock above the Firth of Lorn. Captured by Robert the Bruce in 1308, the castle remained in royal hands until 1469.
At the weekend, visitors to the event were able to take a step back in time at the castle, one of Scotland’s oldest surviving strongholds. Visitors explored the living history camp to experience costumed performances and find out what life was like in medieval times.
