Dunstaffnage Castle is set to host a brand-new Medieval Weekend event on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday May 5.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which manages the site, is inviting visitors to come along and find out more about the tumultuous events between the powerful Bruce and MacDougall families that contributed to the creation of one of the most powerful clans in Scotland, the Campbells.
The event will offer the chance to take a step back in time at one of Scotland’s oldest surviving strongholds.
Visitors will also be able to explore the living history camp to experience costumed performances and find out what life was like in medieval times.
Dunstaffnage Castle served as the stronghold of the MacDougalls, built before 1240 on a huge rock above the Firth of Lorn. Captured by Robert the Bruce in 1308, the castle remained in royal hands until 1469.
Roderick Campbell, Monument Manager at Dunstaffnage Castle, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming visitors to this event, giving people of all ages the chance to learn about and engage with the exciting history of this iconic site in a totally new way.”
The Medieval Weekend event runs from noon to 4pm on both days.
Entry to the event is included in admission to Dunstaffnage Castle and is free for Historic Scotland members.
