The cost for CalMac’s new Glen Sannox ferry has risen to between £145.5m and £149.1m - while the second being built - Glen Rosa - will now not be delivered before September 2025.
The announcement from Ferguson Marine’s managing director David Tydeman also said the Glen Rosa is now forecast to cost £150m - bringing the total for both vessels to just under £300m, three times more than the original price.
Speaking about Glen Sannox, Mr Tydeman said the handover date of the vessel remains set at May 31, followed by the caveat that final inspections and trials may take longer.
This could mean that once CalMac has conducted its own familiarisation training and trials, the vessel could enter service in August this year.
In relation to the Glen Rosa, Mr Tydeman said lessons had been learned on the Glen Sannox and that the firm would be able to complete the work without the changes and revisions encountered on the first ferry.
The details were an interim update on revised costs and timelines. The fuller and more detailed quarterly update will still be presented at the end of March.
