Once again its my pleasure to submit my report and thanks to the Advertiser for continuing this article.
It was a real pleasure to visit the soup group in Ardrishaig public hall.
The group was set up with volunteers from the village allowing the community to have great soup a cup of tea or coffee and cake and biscuits all for free.
After being fed there was the opportunity to play a few indoor games. All involved must be thanked for their time and efforts which was well rewarded by full attendances.
I visited the A83 rest and be thankful public event held in the Baptist church hall in Lochgilphead.
This gave the public the opportunity to discuss the preferred option for the permanent solution something I continue to lobby at the Scottish parliament citizens participation and public petitions committee.
I had a great evening in the Grey Gull where the Ardrishaig gala day committee held a quiz for fundraising. There were a number of teams participating and everyone was very enthusiastic.
The committee raised over £100 for the gala day funds and everyone had a fab evening. We closed with a karaoke session which you will be glad to hear I did not participate in. Well done to everyone who assisted on the evening.
At a special council meeting of the council held on the April 4 which was called by the opposition councillors comprising of SNP, Green labour and independent councillors undertook to gain administration of the council.
Two posts were up for discussion which were the Provost of the council and the Leader of the council. With the nominations of both positions receiving 18 votes each under the constitution a decision when tied should be decided by a cut of the cards.
For Provost it was me that was successful and for the leader of the council Councillor Jim Lynch became the leader of the council. I thanked the outgoing provost Councillor Maurice Corrie and outgoing leader Councillor Robin Currie for their service to their respective posts.
On April 15 we held another special council meeting to consider to freeze the council tax for this year and we are now in a position to freeze council tax this year and also save local services from cuts.
People need council services to live well in their communities. They also need day-to-day costs to be kept down wherever possible.
This decision passes on the benefits of this new funding to our communities – council tax is frozen and council services continue to be available.
Updated council tax bills will now be issued to households setting out payments with 0% increase on last year. Payments for the remainder of the year will be reduced to take account of payments already made at the higher rate set in February.
