Annan RFC 40
Oban Lorne RFC 10
West Division 1
Oban Lorne had an early start on Saturday when they travelled to Annan for an important game for the hosts who have relegation on the cards.
Oban didn’t have their troubles to seek either as players had to switch positions because of unavailability. And with a heavy park and poor weather conditions, they knew this was going to be a hard game.
Nevertheless, the game started well with a penalty to Oban in the first five minutes which was converted by Fergus McIntyre.
But straight from the re-start, Annan got a massive boost with a converted try.
The opposition held the ball well and used their forwards to control the game but with some good counter rucking and solid defensive work, Oban looked up to the challenge.
In the 32nd minute, Blair McFarlane found a break in the home defence to touch down with the conversion coming from McIntyre.
But this was to be Oban’s last points.
Oban managed to get into Annan’s 25 again, but a forward pass and scrappy play from the visitors gave Annan the penalty which was kicked into Oban’s 15. This was a gift for their winger who scored under the posts with a converted try.
There were several injuries in the first half, with Oban down to just 14 men at some points. There were four more tries for Annan before half time.
The second half saw some better play from Oban but they could not get over the game line. However, a much-improved defence allowed only one more try for Annan.
This week Oban Lorne RFC have a home game against Kilmarnock with a 3pm kick-off.
