People on Arran and across North Ayrshire are being encouraged to check that they are eligible to vote in May’s Scottish parliamentary election.
Voters will go to the polls on Thursday May 7, to elect 129 members to the Scottish parliament.
In North Ayrshire, voters will elect MSPs for either the Cunninghame North or Cunninghame South constituency. Arran falls under the Cunninghame North constituency.
After a second review of Scottish parliament boundaries, the Cunninghame South constituency now includes Stewarton and Dunlop and will be administered by North Ayrshire Council. The Cunninghame North constituency boundaries remain the same.
Additionally, North Ayrshire forms part of the West Scotland region, which elects seven list MSPs to represent the area.
This election uses the additional member system where each voter has two votes. One of these votes is cast for a constituency MSP using the first past the post system and the other is cast for a regional representative.
Residents have until midnight on Monday April 20, to register in time to vote in the election and are being urged to do so as soon as possible.
Returning officer Craig Hatton said: “Please remember that anyone aged 16 and above can vote on May 7.
“Nobody should miss out on their right to be part of the democratic process - but to play your part, you must be on the Electoral Register.
“Ensuring your name is on the Electoral Register is a straightforward and quick process, and I hope everyone takes advantage of that to ensure they can cast their vote.
“Please follow the council’s social media channels for updates in the coming weeks.”
Voters who are already registered will start to receive their polling cards from Friday March 20. Polling places will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday May 7, with the count scheduled to get under way the following day.
