Lochaber Rural Education Trust had the recipe for success on Shrove Tuesday, February 13, when the charity held a fundraising Pancake Tea at its An Clachan base.
Chief baker Cathie Ann MacLachlan oversaw the production of 10 dozen pancakes - some of which had been pre ordered by local businesses, with the rest going on sale in the charity’s pop-up tearoom with toppings of butter, cream and jam also on offer.
"We had a really good day and the pancakes were absolutely delicious," said founder member and trustee Isabel Campbell.
Lochaber Rural Education Trust was formed as a charity in 2001 but education visits began in 1978. Since then playgroups, nurseries and primary schools have continued to use the outdoor learning resource annually resulting in Isabel and her daughter Linda taking a week off work in May each year to meet the demand for visits to their croft to learn about animals, agriculture and heritage.
Successful grant applications resulted in the Rural Education Centre being built and opened in April 2005. Since then thousands of children and adults have taken part in the many activities organised by the trust which is run totally by volunteers.
Each year over 1,000 children as well as adults receive valuable experience by taking part in activities. Special courses are organised for children with learning difficulties and those in wheelchairs.
