Discussion on the long-term future of Kilchoan’s car ferry service to Tobermory on Mull drew a huge crowd - with the opportunity to quiz CalMac bosses in person.
The firm’s CEO Robbie Drummond was there, along with operations manager Donna Lockhart, to meet with Ardnamurchan communities and answer their questions on the lifeline service that connects the peninsula with neighbouring Mull.
The meeting was organised and led by Argyll & Bute MP Brendan O’Hara to give people the opportunity to air their concerns about the reliability of the current service, which has been running on a passenger-only basis.
Mr O’Hara was asked to facilitate the meeting when he visited Kilchoan just before Christmas. The future of the ferry link was a recurring theme, he said.
He added: “It is vital that there is a reliable car ferry back on this route as quickly as possible, both for the people of Mull and the people of Ardnamurchan who are, I believe, in the unique position of being on the mainland but relying so heavily on an island for so much of what it needs."
Mr O’Hara thanked Mr Drummond for agreeing to come and listening to the people who use and depend on there being a reliable service running every day.
He added: "I am even most grateful to all those local people who attended in such numbers and who made their case in such a considered, knowledgeable, and respectful manner.”
CalMac is expected to feed back on the points raised in the near future.
