More opportunities to walk, cycle and wheel along Campbeltown Esplanade and Kinloch Park are the aim of a proposed active travel route for the town centre.
Following public feedback, Argyll and Bute Council are asking for views on new proposals for the Esplanade and Kinloch Park as part of the next phase for improving walking and cycling opportunities in Campbeltown.
The proposed route will link the town centre, Dalintober and Askomill along the Esplanade and through Kinloch Park, with places to stop and enjoy the view along the way.
A series of community consultations are now take place to gather views on how the proposed route can best meet the needs of all users.
People can pop into Campbeltown Town Hall, Main Street, on February 28 between 5.30 and 9pm to give the design team their thoughts on how the route should be located and designed.
An online consultation will run on the council’s website from February 28 to March 13.
Councillor Andrew Kain, policy lead for roads and infrastructure, said: “As we work together to reduce emissions and create a climate friendly Argyll and Bute, we want to create as many opportunities as possible to use the car less. Expanding active travel networks in and around Campbeltown is key to that.
“Locals’ feedback is really important and will help shape future plans as we look to make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle to destinations around the town.”
The project follows previous work to improve active travel in the town including segregated cycleway construction on Ralston Road and Meadows Avenue. The council is also planning to make improvements to the path through the Cutting and Quarry Green.
The Scottish Government’s Cycling Walking and Safer Routes Programme is funding the project, with support from Highland and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS).
