Businesses on Arran are being invited to ’take pride’ decorating their shopfronts in a competition aimed at brightening up the island during an annual celebratory weekend.
Arran Pride’s best dressed window competition takes place prior to the festival on June 1 and is encouraging firms to get involved by decorating their windows using the iconic rainbow colours.
Bright, bold and creative entries are encouraged, with a deadline of May 18.
Judging will take place prior to May 25 and the winner will be given a stained glass trophy made by Kez Glass.
Previous winners of the best dressed window competition include Eleanor’s Flowers in Brodick and Chameleon in Lamlash, who have displayed the trophy in their shop windows for the year.
The Pride event kicks off with a warm-up on May 31 at the Glenisle Hotel where there will be a drag bingo, cabaret and a disco.
The popular grand parade will take place on June 1 at 12.30pm, with the colourful and lively procession making its way from the ferry terminal to Brodick Hall.
This will be followed by a picnic in the park behind Brodick Hall between 1pm and 4pm. In the evening, Brodick Hall will welcome guests to the Arran Pride celebration ceilidh between 8pm and 11pm.
On June 2, the Douglas Dook and barbecue will take place at the Douglas Hotel between 11.30am and 3pm, with music from Mike Scott. The dook takes place at noon and will feature pipers from Skirl Power.
In the evening, at the Drift Inn in Lamlash, there will be an event after-party with a karaoke and disco from 9pm.
Arran Pride was introduced in 2022. The inaugural event was a huge success with the number of participants and spectators far exceeding organisers’ expectations.
