People from around the peninsula gathered at Ardnamurchan Lighthouse as a plaque in memory of its last keeper Ian Ramon was unveiled.
Ian’s long association with the building goes back to 1974 when he became local assistant lighthouse keeper.
He served in that role until 1989 when the station became automated and climbing the 152 steps became part of his daily work.
His pride in the lighthouse did not leave him and he continued to serve the station by welcoming and guiding visitors in his uniform.
A crowd of visitors, friends and family gathered to see a plaque that describes Ian as "a true friend of the lighthouse" unveiled.
Davie Fergusson, manager of the Lighthouse Visitors Centre, said: "Ian loved being here and has worked so much for this lighthouse.
"It just makes sense to have his name on the granite as he is part of the fabric."
The highlight of a moving afternoon came as Calum MacColl played the pipes while a lighthouse tender, MV Pole Star, passed Ardnamurchan Point.
Councillor Sarah Fanet, who was attending the event, told the Lochaber Times: "The Ardnamurchan lighthouse is a major landmark, not just in Lochaber but in Scotland.
"Ian was not just the last keeper, he was also the tour guide and kept its story going, reminding us of our strong
connection with the sea.
"Our coastal communities exist thanks to strong and resilient human beings like him."
