A talented amateur photographer has put her skills to good use to raise more than £10,000 for Kintyre good causes.
Primary school teacher Alix Brown has turned a selection of scenic landscape and seascape photographs into an ’Around Kintyre’ calendar for the last three years.
All production costs are covered through sponsorship from local businesses, meaning all proceeds from the sales go directly to charity.
The 2024 calendar has raised £4,082 for the Mairi Semple Cancer Fund, which provides financial aid to cancer sufferers living in Kintyre.
Alix handed over a cheque to some of the charity’s committee members on Monday.
“We are very grateful to Alix,” said Matthew Ralston of the fund, “it is people like her who help keep the charity solvent.”
Alix added: “I would like to thank all sponsors – Platinum Bar Hire, Campbeltown Motor Company, Wee Toon Carver, Jewellery Casting Scotland, Glen Scotia Distillery, Glenbarr Farms, Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures, Kintyre Eggs, ISPB Consultancy Services, The Putt Stop, Ebb and Flow Therapies, Sarah’s Pet Pals, Serenity Wellness and Graeme’s Waste Solutions – and Colin Campbell of Bell & Bain for printing this year’s calendars at a reduced price.
“Thanks also to The Kintyre Larder and Kintyre Design for selling them and everyone who purchased one - I am very grateful.”
Alix first created a 2022 calendar, which raised £3,371 for Campbeltown Hospital’s Sunshine Room palliative care suite, followed by a 2023 version which made £3,255 for the Mairi Semple Cancer Fund, bringing her grand total now to £10,708.
She has not yet committed to creating a 2025 calendar but says she will continue supporting local causes through her photography.
