Pupils from two Kintyre primary schools made their mark in the Beat the Street Active Nation challenge which has come to an end after six weeks.
The active travel competition saw 10,414 people from across Ayrshire and Argyll compete in teams to see who could clock up the highest number of miles as they walked, cycled, rolled, wheeled and ran around their towns.
Throughout the challenge, Dalintober and Drumlemble primary schools featured in varying positions in the total and average points leaderboards.
At the end of the competition, when the final scores were counted, Dalintober was first in the Campbeltown schools’ total points leaderboard, with Drumlemble in the runners-up spot, while Drumlemble won the average points title for Campbeltown schools, with Dalintober in second place.
Dalintober Primary School just missed out on a podium spot in the leaderboard for total points across Argyll and Ayrshire, finishing in fourth place.
“We hope the project will run again in the future – we have all really enjoyed taking part,” said a spokesperson for Dalintober Primary School. “Thank you to Mrs Campbell for overseeing our involvement.”
A Drumlemble Primary School spokesperson said: “We are delighted that we are first in the average points and second overall; what an accomplishment, considering the majority of Beat the Street boxes were a bus ride away from the school.
“The final hour saw Miss Brown along with a group of pupils, parents and friends of the school make a dash to get as many points as possible. An incredible 20,000 points were gained on the last day.
“It has been an excellent way to get children out walking, running and biking. They have had a great time and thanks go to certain members of staff for keeping the level of enthusiasm up! Well done everyone.”
Campbeltown Nursery Centre also did well in the challenge, winning the total points award for Argyll and Bute community and workplace teams and placing second for average points.
