Tyndrum’s Real Food Café is putting Gluten Free Fortnight on the map.
Until April 25, in collaboration with Coeliac UK, the cafe - and Forth Valley Food and Drink - aims to raise awareness of coeliac disease and the kinds of gluten-free food and drink options diners living with Coeliac disease and gluten sensitivities can enjoy.
Coeliac disease affects an estimated one in 100 individuals worldwide, with many others actively avoiding gluten because of sensitivities or personal dietary preferences.
Gluten Free Fortnight was launched in 2019 at The Real Food Café which has been designated as an A-grade Coeliac UK Accredited Caterer serving suitable dishes since 2005.
Since then, the campaign has gained momentum and has been recognised for its success, being shortlisted for the Best Marketing Campaign award at the 2023 Cateys Awards, the ’oscars’ of the hospitality industry.
The cafe’s owner Sarah Heward, one of Scotland Food & Drink’s regional food tourism ambassadors, said: “It really is such an important opportunity to highlight the demand for more diverse, specialist and inclusive menus and it’s something we’re proud to champion at The Real Food Café.
“We started serving gluten-free menu options in 2005 and over the years we’ve seen that people will travel considerable distances to enjoy gluten free meals.”
Menu highlights for April’s Gluten Free Fortnight include a Scottish cheese and salami pot - a melted brie from Ballochmyle and Great Glen venison salami, salad, red onion chutney; Nairn’s GF oatcakes and chips, Macsween haggis and chips; MacWinney’s sausage and chips and The Real Food Café’s award-winning MSC haddock and chips with homemade tartare sauce.
