Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup
Quarter finals
Oban Celtic 0
Oban Camanachd 9
Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup holders Oban Camanachd ran out 9-0 winners in the Oban Derby against Oban Celtic at Mossfield.
Cammy MacCallum took the Oban Celtic side as Dougie MacIntyre and Stephen Campbell were unavailable.
Oban Camanachd played a three-one formation in attack with Malcolm Clark flanked by Ross Campbell and Lewis Cameron and Matthew Sloss further forward at the point.
Camanachd’s Lewis Cameron netted four times within the opening half hour. His efforts came on 10, 11, 24 and 28, displaying extremely smart finishing.
In between, Malcolm Clark was on target on 14 minutes with Matthew Sloss scoring twice in two minutes, on 33 and 34 minutes, meaning Oban Camanachd led 7-0 at the break.
Cammy MacCallum made changes at the break and they worked well, meaning Camanachd only scored twice more in the second half - Matthew Sloss completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes remaining and Malcolm Clark got his second on 78 minutes to make it 9-0.
Oban Camanachd had the chance to hit double figures 10 minutes from the end when referee Ross Brown awarded them a penalty, but the normally reliable Louie MacFarlane pulled the spot-hit low past the post.
James MacMillan, who captained Oban Camanachd’s 2019 Camanachd Cup final side against Newtonmore, came on for Evan MacLellan at wing centre for the final half-hour of the contest.
Reflecting on the win, Oban Camanachd manager Gareth Evans said: “James MacMillan returned to the side after a long absence and slipped back in with ease. Fifteen-year-old Scott Campbell was the best player on the pitch, whilst young Alexander MacDonald was also very good.
“Our fitness showed and we played nice shinty at times. We should have scored a few more goals but took our foot off the gas in the second half. Fair play to Oban Celtic. They defended bravely but Cammy Sutherland in our goal was limited to taking a couple of goal-hits in each half.”
Oban Camanachd now meet Inveraray in the semi-finals in mid-May.
This Saturday, Oban Camanachd, sponsored by TSL Contractors, play leaders Kingussie at the Dell in a Mowi Premiership fixture.
Kyles Athletic 14
Ardnamurchan 0
Kyles Athletic were too strong for Ardnamurchan, winning 14-0 in their 3pm throw-up at Tighnabruaich.
Ardnamurchan play two leagues below their opponents but held Kyles to a 5-0 interval lead. Former Skye player James Pringle scored his first goal for Kyles on nine minutes, with Scott Macdonald adding a second on 24 minutes.
James Pringle got his second on 34 minutes with goals late in the half from Conor Kennedy on 42 minutes and Roddy Macdonald on the stroke of half-time building a 5-0 interval lead.
Scott Macdonald went on to take his tally to six goals in the second half with Conor Kennedy scoring twice more to complete his hat-trick. Roddy Macdonald got his second and David Zavaroni the other.
Col Glen 0
Inveraray 1
Inveraray edged out Col Glen 1-0 in their derby at Glendaruel.
Inveraray’s Lewis Montgomery missed out through suspension. The decisive goal in this tie came midway through the first half, with Inveraray dominating, when Campbell Watt scored on 22 minutes.
Both keepers – Scott Symons for Col Glen and Inveraray’s Scott MacLachlan – made impressive penalty saves and Col Glen’s Sam Bulloch saw an effort come back off the post.

Mowi South Division 1
League leaders Lochside Rovers returned to action for the first time this month, beating Kyles Athletic juniors 3-1 in their noon throw-up at Dunoon Stadium.
Lochside’s Craig Macmillan began a three-game ban after his yellow card during the win over Aberdour took him through the disciplinary points threshold.
Top scorer Lewis Buchanan was working, Scott MacMillan was unavailable and Alexander MacDonald and Scott Campbell were both called up by Oban Camanachd.
Manager Davie MacMillan listed himself as a substitute but wasn’t required.
Kyles fielded a mixture of youth and experience with Dunky Kerr in attack. Twelve-year-old Daniel Duffy started at full forward, although he was forced off after eight minutes when he suffered a blow to the wrist.
Fortunately, a check afterwards showed that whilst there was swelling to the wrist, there was no lasting damage. Ross MacKay, on his shinty return, came on much earlier than he would have expected.
When the ball broke to Ruairidh Buchanan on 15 minutes, he hit a great strike into the roof of the net to put the Oban side ahead.
Two Jordan Kerr goals either side of the break sealed the win. First, on 40 minutes, referee Euan Pearson ordered a free-hit to be re-taken six times because of player encroachment. When it was taken, it was worked well by Lochside, allowing Kerr to finish into the bottom corner of the goal.
Then, on 51 minutes, Jordan Kerr took advantage of another opportunity, smashing the ball high into the goal to make it 3-0.
Kyles, urged forward by the excellent Anna Nicolson at half back, came more into it and when the ball deflected on 75 minutes to Roddy MacColl, who had been policed well by Calum MacMillan, he found the back of the net.
Lochside’s Fraser MacMillan had a terrific game on the wing.
Lochside Rovers assistant manager Duncan MacMillan said: “We’re delighted to get up the road with both points.
“Lewis Buchanan, Scott MacMillan, Alexander MacDonald and Scott Campbell are all big players for us so to be without all four made it a test as it left us stretched. All the boys did well to take another two points and it’s “so far so good” in the league.
The Oban side are in Bullough Cup first round action on Saturday when they play the English Shinty Association at Peffermill.
Duncan MacMillan added: “We won’t be taking anything for granted. Gareth will have players back for Oban Camanachd so that, in turn, releases players for us so we should be stronger than on Saturday.”
The Glasgow Mid Argyll seconds beat Aberdour 3-1 at Silversands. Mark Bain, Ryan MacKenzie and Andy McGhee got their goals before Angus Thorburn’s late counter.
Mowi South Division 2
The Bute second team edged out Strachur-Dunoon 3-2 at the Meadows.
Strachur-Dunoon’s Liam Robertson began a two-game ban following his red card against the Kyles Athletic second team.
Bute’s Neil McKirdy and Strachur-Dunoon’s Cairn Limbert exchanged goals midway through the first half.
The islanders led through Regan Craig on 56 minutes with a second from Neil McKirdy making it 3-1 on the hour.
Cairn Limbert got his second on 81 minutes, but Bute stayed in front to win 3-2.
Tayforth defeated the Aberdour second team 1-0 at Peffermill with former Lochcarron player Niall Arnott scoring a couple of minutes from time.

The club is in the early stages of planning events to commemorate and celebrate this hugely important and ground-breaking achievement in its history.
Inveraray is keen to hear from anyone who has any connections with, or archive material relating to, the 1925 side which they would like to share.
