A Brodick homeowner is appealing for witnesses after her house in Douglas Place sustained significant damage in a suspected ’hit and run’.
Rosemary Sinton is appealing for the public’s help after the damage was discovered on Tuesday morning when a neighbour noticed a large dent to the rear of the house, which is located at the entrance to Douglas Place.
It is believed the damage was likely caused after the house was hit by a large vehicle as the sandstone wall has been pushed back ’quite a distance’. The impact resulted in the entire wall moving - with cracks leading along to the adjoining door and window.
Rosemary, 83, told the Arran Banner: “I was away at the time but it must have been some collision as the almost 200-year-old thick stone has been pushed into my kitchen.
“The crime here is not that the damage has happened, but that the person responsible did not knock on my door or even leave a note.
“Whoever did this would have been well aware they struck the wall. If you know who is responsible, please let the police know.”
Rosemary has insurance, however, she is facing a steep excess payment, along with other long-term concerns about the structural integrity of that part of her home.
The skylight has also popped open, leading to further concerns about the roof possibly being damaged.
The narrow road which borders the property is frequently used by parents dropping and collecting their children from the nearby school. It also serves as the only entrance for 20 other properties on Douglas Place.
Occasionally, large commercial vehicles and lorries accidentality turn into the entrance road or use the space to turn when they notice the road ahead is impassable.
If you can help police with their enquiries, call 101 or report information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
