Ground investigations have started at Craignure to aid in the foundation design of the proposed jetty and ferry terminal.
An exploratory rig arrived on Monday April 22 and work is expected last around four weeks.
The works will involve drilling boreholes to gain ground conditions information, rock height etc to aid in the foundation design, with plans also including a marshalling yard, terminal building and vehicle access road.
The work is predominantly being undertaken in the sea using a jack-up, self-elevating platform. The marine work will be operational 24 hours a day, for seven days a week for the duration of the project.
An Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson said they expect that ferry services to operate as normal.
