Fort William FC 0
Tain St Duthus 1
North Caledonian League
Fort William Football Club assistant manager Darren Duncan had his birthday celebrations put on hold on Saturday as Tain St Duthus came marching in and spoilt the party with a 1-0 win at Claggan Park.
This North Caledonian League encounter was Fort William’s final home game of the season and hopes were high that Duncan could maintain the 100 per cent win rate he had generated in the absence of manager Alan Gray, unavailable through work and holiday commitments.
Sadly, this was not to be and John MacLellan’s third goal of the season in the 13th minute proved to be the difference between the sides.
Duncan said: “A really disappointing result in a game I don’t think we deserved to lose.
“We didn’t really get going in the first half, having a lot of possession but not creating too much with it.
“St Duthus punished us for it by capitalising on a mistake and getting the goal to go ahead at the break.
“At half time we changed the formation, going two up top and I asked the lads to pick up the tempo as we were nowhere near it in the first half and, to be fair to them, they gave me everything in the second half.
“We created so many chances and had we been more clinical, we could have scored plenty.
“It wasn’t to be, however. Fair play to St Duthus, they were throwing their bodies in front of everything and their keeper had some excellent saves.
“We now look forward to the long journey to Halkirk next week for our last game of the season.”
