Oban were up against a tough opponent in a thrilling match at Glencruitten on Saturday.
A few minutes into the clash, Oban drew first blood with a cracking try followed by a successful conversion, setting the pace for what was to be a fierce contest.
As the first half wore on, Kilmarnock struck back, notching a try and a penalty to keep the match keen. But it wasn’t long before the boys in green regained the upper hand with a successful penalty kick of their own followed by a second converted try.
Approaching the end of the first half, Oban showed their class by hammering home another try, after a brilliant bit of play. The whistle blew for half time with the scoreboard reading 22-8 in favour of Oban, giving the home supporters plenty to cheer.
The second half saw Kilmarnock make a spirited attempt to claw their way back, managing an early try that tightened the score to 22-15.
But from then on, it was smooth sailing for Oban Lorne, who exploited every chance, playing great rugby and dominating the game.
As the final whistle blew, the score stood at a commanding 48-22, marking a well-earned victory for Oban Lorne.
The boys did themselves proud, fighting hard to stay among the top three in the league table.
Oban Lorne are at home again this weekend against runaway league leaders Ardrossan Academicals. Kick-off 3pm.
