This spell of lovely weather seems to be continuing but all I’m going to say is enjoy it.
I’m going to talk about a couple of things that could do with a mention.
First the Volunteer Transport Drivers of Mid Argyll. I mentioned them in a column a few weeks ago.
These folk really do an amazing job making sure people can get to their hospital and doctors’ appointments. They take people all over not just Mid Argyll and provide an invaluable service to people struggling to get to see the doctor.
They really do take the stress out of getting there. Unfortunately, there just isn’t enough of them to cover all appointments.
If you think you can help fill the gap, please contact them and see if you could be a fit. Either have a look at their website - MATV Scotland - or give them a call on 07377 663582 they’d be delighted to hear from you.
Last but not least is Auchindrain, a place close to my heart and is taking up so much of my time at the minute but I’ve got good news.
We have a new board in place made up from people from every community council area in Mid Argyll, we have managed to get people not just with interests in the area and it’s history but people with skills covering all the things we need to know about.
Governance of a charitable trust, people with legal expertise, financial acumen, hospitality and customer experience, building works, building restoration, outdoor ground works, health and safety, people who can think strategically, funding, conservation of the collections of artifacts and me.
We are also building up a table of volunteers with the skills and the desire to help Auchindrain be a place you want to come to again and again.
The best news is that Auchindrain will be open this summer. We will be open by July 1 at the latest and I look forward to seeing you there.
There are a number of events planned for over the summer, first of these will be a family day in mid-July which will be a day to celebrate the site, what it has to offer everyone and what you can offer Auchindrain.
There will be a farmers and craft fair, music and song, storytelling, good food and that special ingredient – Auchindrain. Once you’ve been there you’ll know exactly what I mean. It really is a fabulous place one you’ll never forget and Auchindrain will then forever be a part of you.
To make this happen we need you – the people of Mid Argyll. If you have a bit of time, an afternoon or a day or two and would like to help out over the summer and beyond please contact me and I’d be happy to have a chat and get you on the list.
I’ve now been a councillor for three years and must say I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. It seems like yesterday I got elected. It has been a privilege to represent Mid Argyll and I look forward to being your councillor for the next two years.
