SSEN Transmission has ’topped out’ the first steel lattice tower of its Creag Dhubh to Dalmally 275kV Overhead Line Project, describing it as a ’major milestone.’
SSEN Transmission said it marked a significant step forward in the construction phase of the critical infrastructure project, which forms part of its wider Argyll and Kintyre 275kV strategy "to enable the future connection and transportation of renewable energy and supporting the UK and Scottish Governments’ clean energy and energy security targets."
The Creag Dhubh to Dalmally project will span approximately 13.3 kilometres and be supported by 47 galvanised steel lattice towers. These towers will carry two circuits and include optical fibre ground wires to improve more network resilience and communication, said a spokesperson for the energy company.
"As construction progresses, we remain focused on minimising environmental impact, maintaining safety, and maximising local economic opportunities and we want to thank the local community for their patience as work continues," added the spokesperson.
The project has faced protest from No More Pylons Dalmally campaigners and went to a local public inquiry. it also triggered a Gofundme appeal seeking £20,000 to help pay for legal fees to fight off the overhead line development.
