ATLAS Arts, the Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre, Tobar an Dualchais and Ionad Thròndairnis have announced Seanchas Beò / Living Lore - a brand new 18-month collaborative project focused on storytelling, cultural heritage and oral histories rooted in local communities.
Through the project, the partners will commission three new long-term artist projects in Skye and Lochalsh, exploring ways of bringing collections, stories, and cultural knowledge into everyday use through new creative work.
The partners successfully bid for Creative Scotland’s Culture Collective Fund, allowing them to support an 18-month collaborative events and commissioning programme. The fund covers artists salaries for 18 months, and a budget for production, collaboration, travel, events and mentoring.
The project will result in a whole series of artworks, creative events and projects made with local communities, drawing from the unique resources and knowledge held by each partner.
The Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre, Tobar an Dualchais and Ionad Thròndairnis will each co-commission a creative practitioner with ATLAS Arts - who will support, coordinate, amplify and build connections across each of the three projects.
Artists will collaborate with one partner each, and join the wider Culture Collective community of artists and organisations working across Scotland. Artists will be paid £36,878.40 total, for an 18 month freelance contract, with an additional production and support budget.
The partners welcome applications from artists who have a good understanding of local context, Gaelic cultural heritage, and the project partners’ aims, inviting approaches from across disciplines; visual art, writing, performance, sound, film, publishing, social practice, research-led work, and beyond.
Organisers are seeking notes of interest from Creative Practitioners in Skye and Lochalsh by noon on 14 May 2026. Email producer@atlasarts.org.uk. To find out more about the Open Call opportunities and the project as a whole, visit atlasarts.org.uk/programme/about-seanchas-beò
