Christmas is a time of much planning and preparation. Many of you may have already begun and completed your planning and preparation.
Gifts have been purchased, Christmas trees are up, lights are flashing brightly, turkeys are in the freezers, and the Christmas crackers are waiting to be pulled.
Christmas crackers are a usual and favourite tradition at many dinner tables. When you pull them, you normally find inside that there is a crown to wear, a message to read, and a gift to receive.
Have you ever thought about how they capture the Christmas message?
In the book of John 1 v 14, we are reminded of a Heavenly King who became like us, flesh and blood, and made his dwelling amongst us.
A King who not only involved himself in the everyday mess and beauty of daily life, but who also came with a down-to-earth message of hope and life, offering a down-to-earth gift of salvation to all who would receive it.
John introduces us to a King like no other, a King whose rule and reign over this world that he loves so much, is so unusual, yet so powerful and beautiful.
As you pull and hear the snap of your Christmas cracker at the dinner table, consider the crown, the message, and the gift.
That God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son, that whoever would believe in him, would not perish, but receive eternal life.
Do you know this down-to-earth King who offers a down-to-earth message of hope, and the everlasting gift of eternal life?
