Nevis Tri Club (NTC) successfully hosted the third running of its popular Wee Tri on Sunday April 12, with the friendly local event continuing to attract both seasoned athletes and first-time triathletes alike.
The Wee Tri saw 66 entries, including 61 individual competitors and five relay teams.
For many participants, it was their first experience of triathlon, highlighting the event’s welcoming and accessible atmosphere.
The race consisted of a 400-metre swim in the pool, followed by a 15-kilometre cycle down Glen Nevis, and finishing with a scenic 6km run combining road and trail sections.
Despite extremely challenging weather conditions on the day, with driving rain and strong headwinds, athletes and volunteers showed true Lochaber spirit throughout the event, delivering a fantastic effort in tough conditions.
Race organiser Dave Williams led the event, supported by the NTC committee and a dedicated team of around 30 volunteers who helped ensure the day ran smoothly.
The club relies heavily on volunteers to deliver the event each year, and their support is invaluable.
The club would like to thank the local leisure centre for use of the pool and Offbeat Bikes for sponsoring race numbers.
Prize donations were kindly provided by Nevis Range, Nevis Cycles, Chloe Valentine Massage, Oh Crumbs Bakery, the Highland Bookshop and the Highland Soap Company.
A spokesperson for the NTC gave additional thanks to; Black Isle Brewery, Fèis Lochaber, volunteer medics Savannah Parton and Jack Blundy, Chris from Lochaber Environmental, Morrisons and Lidl, and photographers John O’Neill, Phil Hughes, and Nix.
Nevis Tri Club is a friendly and inclusive club offering training sessions throughout the year for all abilities.
Anyone interested in joining can be urged to contact NTC on their website.
The event is scheduled to go ahead again in 2027.
