MV Caledonian Isles has developed a problem with its port main engine the day before it was meant to return to service tomorrow.
The delay, follows an earlier delay which was meant to see the vessel return to service on Tuesday, however this was delayed to Wednesday, then Thursday, and now it has been delayed to Monday February 23.
The issue with the 33-year-old vessel is related to the mechanical overspeed on the port main engine. Once parts have arrived and repairs are undertaken, MV Caledonian Isles will need to complete sea trials before it can enter service.
MV Alfred and MV Isle of Arran will continue to operate to Troon up to and including end of service on Sunday February 22. MV Isle of Arran will not be able to utilise Ardrossan Harbour as it has an ongoing gangway davit issue which prevents overnight berthing there and because MV Caledonian Isles is occupying the Arran berth in Ardrossan.
CalMac area manager for Clyde south, Donna Lockhart said: “Our systems will be updated today and customers who are affected by this will be contacted.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience this will be causing to the community”.
