Oban Hospice is inviting all to its fourth annual ceilidh fundraiser, this year taking place on Valentine’s Day (February 14).
The now beloved tradition is once again taking place at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls from 7.30pm, with a buffet and raffle on offer.
The evening will feature a host of local entertainers all lending their talents to Oban Hospice’s noble cause, with special guest Calum MacColl, the BBC Scotland weatherman and Mod Traditional Gold Medallist leading the entertainment.
Performers include Oban Gaelic Choir, their conductor Sileas Sinclair BEM, Oban High School Pipe Band and Angus MacColl, Isla Munro Dancers, OHS Trad School of Music, Aon Ghuth Makaton, Cara MacInnes, Ross MacPherson, Hector MacFadyen and Kevin McGlynn.
This year’s ceilidh comes right on the eve of the new Dove Centre’s first anniversary.
Looking back on their first year in their new home, trustee and ceilidh organiser John MacKenzie said: "I think it’s gone splendidly. The opening was made easy since we had had so many volunteers that came in to help organise the place."
Hospice chairman Peter Darling said: "People say to me that its got a lovely atmosphere, I agree.
"I can’t believe its a year that we’ve been in here, for me its that feeling of permanence here, that we’ve been here a long time.
"I’m very thankful for the input from the people who made this place possible, the trustees, mainly John, Iain and Anne, who led the project, and for the work that the local contractors put in, they went above and beyond with this place."
In its first year, the new Dove Centre has seen more groups launched and use greatly improved.
The greater space allows two groups to meet at once, or a group to meet while therapy and counselling sessions are held simultaneously with privacy maintained thanks to sound proofed doors.
The increased efficiency of the new centre has freed up staff and volunteers to do more outreach work in the community, something which the charity hopes to expand in the future.
"This improvement has all been made possible by the generosity of our community and the brilliant work of our volunteers," Peter added.
That generosity is seen very clearly in the support for the ceilidh.
John said: "We’ve been fortunate with local artists who give freely their time and talent to come along and provide high class entertainment. They do so year after year.
"We’re also fortunate to have Colin MacColl, coming again free of charge to keep all the money for the great services we provide and the Dove Centre.
"And thanks to Amanda MacPhail at the Gathering Halls for giving us the venue without charge as well!"
Last year’s ceilidh was a rip-roaring success, with many attendees from last years event already booking. More tickets are still on sale.
If you want a good night and to support the Dove Centre in supporting those with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, buy a ticket at the centre or through the QR Code below!
Tickets are £15 per adult or £35 for a family of four. Donations are still being collected for the raffle, and donations for the buffet can be handed in on Saturday February 14 between 2pm and 4pm at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls or the Dove Centre.
