There have been many shock results at Claggan Park over the years, but not many with as a pleasant an outcome as last Saturday.
Donnie Mathers and girlfriend Rebecca Webster travelled from Manchester to attend Fort William FC’s North Caledonian Leage match against Invergordon, by way of a pilgrimage to the memory of Rebecca’s late father, Michael.
On his recent passing Rebecca had been clearing out his things and discovered that, unknown to her, he had been a great follower of the football club.
She was aware that he loved the Highlands, especially around Lochaber and had many holidays in the area, but was surprised at him being a well known Fort supporter.

It was Donnie’s idea to make a "pilgrimage" to the area - suggesting to Rebecca that they should visit the Club which obviously meant so much to her father, but with an additional plan in mind.
He contacted Fort Chairman, Rob Coull and asked if he could propose to Rebecca on the pitch, to which he readily agreed, also hatching a plan with Donnie to arrange for a picture to be taken of the event.
So, on Saturday January 24, at half time, Rebecca and Donnie made their way to the centre line for a
photograph and while she was admiring the view he got down on one knee, held out a ring box and popped the question.
Rebecca was left speechless but quickly agreeded with a nod and smile.
She said: "I had no idea this was going to happen and was totally shocked.
"It was a really thoughtful thing to do and thank you so much to the Club for their help in organising this.
"I really had no idea that my father was such a fan of the Club until I saw a tribute to him on their Facebook page, then found things about them in his possessions. He would be so happy with us today."
Donnie said: "Thank you so much to Rob and the Club for letting us do this, helping in the organisation and keeping it completely secret.
"Claggan Park must have the best scenery of any football pitch and everyone was so nice and even if the Fort didn’t get the result they wanted, I certainly did."
