The world’s last remaining seagoing paddle steamer it to return to Fort William for the first time in a decade during her annual visit to Oban and the Inner Hebrides.
The Waverley is scheduled to offer an evening cruise from Oban up Loch Linnhe to Fort William on Sunday May 26 and then head from Fort William on bank holiday - May 27 - to Oban, Tobermory and the Isle of Coll.
The announcement follows Waverley’s highly successful visit to the area in 2023 which saw record numbers board the iconic vessel.
Waverley’s Master, Captain Dominic McCall, said: “Following the outstanding support we received last year we are very keen to further develop Waverley’s sailing programme to allow locals and visitors alike to enjoy a trip aboard this magnificent steamship.
“I particularly enjoy cruising the Inner Hebrides with its stunning surroundings. I look forward to taking Waverley back to Fort William for the first time in a decade and welcoming passengers aboard for a great day out.”
Waverley Excursions General Manager, Paul Semple, further commented: “Thanks to support from the team at Cruise Loch Linnhe we can return Waverley to Fort William.
"Unfortunately, the Town Pier has not been able to accept vessels the size of Waverley for some time but having approached Cruise Loch Linnhe they are delighted to assist by providing tender boats to Waverley which will anchor close to Town Pier.
"Last season it was heartwarming to see the level of interest and support shown towards Waverley when she made her annual visit north but to ensure her continued viability, we need to further expand her routes and calling points.
"I hope the attraction of a nostalgic cruise from Fort William aboard this famous Clyde steamer will appeal to the whole family.”
Waverley is currently docked in Glasgow with maintenance and refit work ongoing before the ship moves to Greenock to be dry docked in April ahead of sailings which will take Waverley to all four countries around the UK.
This winter will see over £700,000 spent directly on the ship with some internal refurbishment works taking place to keep the iconic vessel in operation.
