In what has become an annual event pupils of Inverlochy Primary School marked Burns day in a slightly different, but appropriate way that would no doubt please the Bard himself.
Every pupil in the school learned poems in the modern Scots tongue and performed them first in their individual classes after which three youngsters were chosen to be entered into the ‘Great Scot’ finals to which friends and a family were invited.
These representatives of each class appeared in turn before judges, former teacher Mairi Finlayson and Lochaber Life Editor Iain Ferguson, reciting their poems in as loud and clear voice as possible while capturing every nuance of of each word.
Many of the children also dressed in their best tartan attire, from shawls to bow ties, adding to the atmosphere of excitement and fun in the hall.
Many parents and relatives came along to watch the proceedings with p1-3 before the interval and 4-7 afterwards - each overcoming nerves to take their place centre stage.

In every competition there has to be a winner and each was called up to be presented with a blue certificate and packet of sweets, with runners up receiving sweets and a yellow certificate.
At the awards ceremonies each judge said how much they enjoyed each performance and praised the efforts of all entrants.
Mrs Finlayson said; “Everyone was so good and spoke so clearly, what a very nice morning we all had.”
