Despite a plethora of pitch inspections, plenty games went ahead on Saturday.
Mowi Premiership
Kingussie 2
Kyles Athletic 0
The game between Kyles Athletic and Kingussie was switched to the Dell midweek when it became clear the heavy rain had left the Playing Field, Tighnabruaich, unplayable.
Kyles were missing injured trio Callum Millar, Innes Macdonald and Cammy Keith but John Kennedy, Will Cowie and Sorley Thomson returned.
Kingussie’s Savio Genini recovered from injury, but James Falconer, Thomas Borthwick and Liam Borthwick were still out.
Ruaridh Anderson put the league leaders ahead on 22 minutes, running out to the wing to gather a ball from Savio Genini who cut the ball onto his left side before dribbling in to score.
Substitute Eoin Baikie added a second with 15 minutes remaining, playing a one-two with Savio Genini and shooting low into the net.
Lovat P
Oban Camanachd P
“A wasted journey” was how Oban Camanachd manager Gareth Evans described Saturday’s trip to play Lovat in their 3pm throw-up at Balgate.
With both teams stripped and ready for action, the game was postponed by referee John Angus Gillies just ahead of throw-up due to an unplayable field, left muddied following the earlier HIS Sutherland Cup tie between the Lovat and Kinlochshiel second teams.
Gareth Evans said: “I had concerns during the week about two games taking place on the same pitch considering the weather we’ve had. We pointed out Mossfield was available and the fixture could be reversed but we were told on Friday there had been a couple of dry days at Kiltarlity and the fixtures were confirmed.
“We had a stop in Fort William on the journey up the road and it was pouring. Daniel Cameron was in Inverness overnight and he said it was the same there.
“The other game was finishing as we arrived and the pitch looked okay from a distance. We were in the changing rooms and the boys were changed and ready to come out when referee John Angus Gillies asked to speak to Lovat manager Jamie Matheson and me.
“The referee had safety concerns as although the wings were fine, it was very muddy down the middle, especially in both goal areas. Scrapping the mud away was suggested but both managers agreed it was the correct decision to call the game off. It’s one of these situations where “sorry” doesn’t cut it. The Camanachd Association knew Mossfield was free so why schedule two games at Balgate? They could also have stepped in and moved the game, but they just seem to leave it to the clubs. It was asking too much of the field to take two games and Lovat made a bad decision to confirm both games were on.”
This Saturday, there is an Oban derby as Oban Celtic meet Oban Camanachd, sponsored by TSL Contractors, in the Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup quarter finals.
Gareth Evans added: “A derby match will be good for Oban with a big crowd assured. We are due to meet three times this season with a Macaulay tie at the start of May and a Mod Cup match too. Daniel MacCuish should finally complete his three-match suspension on Saturday, but Daniel MacVicar isn’t available. We should have everyone else.”

Ollie Adrian’s blistering drive levelled the tie on 39 minutes and it remained level until the break. Strachur-Dunoon’s chances suffered a blow when Liam Robertson was sent off after 72 minutes, but it remained 1-1 at the 90-minute mark so extra time ensued.
