Members of Lochgilphead, Tarbert and Campbeltown bowling clubs are now better prepared to help those wishing to take up bowls or attend ‘try bowls’ sessions at the clubs.
Volunteers from the clubs attended a Bowls Scotland coaching session recently, along with Kintyre’s Active Schools sports co-ordinator, who will be helping clubs to set up bowls coaching sessions for school children.
Bowls Scotland coach and volunteer manager Alan McDonald, who took the session held at Tarbert Bowling Club, said afterwards: “"Having taken part in our Introduction to Bowls Coaching Award, the clubs will now be in a great position to offer bowls to a new audience of all ages in a modern, fun and accessible way.
“This should provide the clubs with the foundations they need to grow and to continue to be a central piece of their local community for generations to come.
“By doing this, they are highlighting to those outwith the sport that bowls has moved on from the traditions of yesteryear, and we hope that the skills and games learned through the course will provide a far more accurate and true reflection of our sport in the 21st century.
“By also engaging in our other programmes such as Try Bowls, they have demonstrated a willingness to allow us to help them, and so we feel that they have all of the necessary pieces in place to allow them to recruit many more members in future years."
