Campbeltown and District Juvenile Football Association (CDJFA) has marked another milestone year of grassroots sport with two successful prizegiving events, celebrating the development, commitment and achievement of its players.
The celebrations kicked off on Friday, February 6, at Campbeltown Grammar School, where the association’s small-sided teams, including the Mini Kickers, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017 age groups, as well as the girls’ under-16, under-14, under-12 and under-10 sections, were recognised.
The festivities continued on Sunday, February 8, at the Argyll Arms Hotel, when it was the turn of the 2015 and 2016 small-sided teams to be honoured.
Both events brought together players, families, coaches and volunteers to mark another year of progression, with every player recognised for their contribution to the association.
“CDJFA operates a strong soccer-school style setup, placing emphasis on participation, enjoyment, development and teamwork,” said a spokesperson for the association. “Individual participation awards were presented to celebrate commitment, effort and involvement, alongside participation in festivals held throughout the season.
“We would also like to highlight our core club values, including respect, inclusion, teamwork and enjoyment, and express our sincere thanks to the many people who make grassroots football possible, including coaches, volunteers, team secretaries, registration officers, cleaners, and those who provide hospitality and support throughout the year.
“Their time, dedication and behind-the-scenes work are vital to the success of the association.”
During the prizegiving events, a raffle raised £725, for which the association expressed huge appreciation.
The funds raised will go directly towards the cost of running the association, ensuring that all children involved benefit from continued opportunities, facilities and activities.
Special mention was made of the 2015 age group, who are new to competitive football within the Argyll and the Islands Youth Football Association league.
Coaches spoke positively about the commitment shown by the players and the value each individual brings to the team environment as they adapt to this new stage of their football development.
On the night, the association’s small-sided players also signed for the 2026 season, marking an exciting step forward, and CDJFA looks forward to the season ahead with them.
The association is excited about what the next year will bring, following a year that included a wide range of additional activities such as the Disney Playmakers programme, the Extra Time programme, and McDonald’s football sessions.
CDJFA looks forward to continuing and expanding these opportunities and providing more special activities throughout the year.
The association also highlighted the success of its newly formed 16+ section, which has filled a significant gap for football in Campbeltown.
“This section has brought many players back into the game who had not played for some time, and it has been particularly encouraging to see players socialising, reconnecting and enjoying football again,” said the spokesperson. “Thanks to the coaches involved for their commitment and support in making this possible.
“As an association, CDJFA now covers a wide range of ages and opportunities, but we remain committed to identifying and filling any gaps for those who would like to play football but may not yet have a suitable option.
“We welcome ideas, feedback and new volunteers as we continue to grow and develop opportunities for the local community.
“Thank you to all families, volunteers and local venues for their continued support. We look forward to another positive year.
“Finally, we would like to remind the community that the association’s quiz night is now on sale via Eventbrite, taking place on Saturday February 28 at 7.30pm. We would love to see as many people there as possible to support grassroots football in Campbeltown.”
