West Youth Competitions
Mid Argyll U15 girls played their first rugby cup game at home against North Glasgow in the West Youth Competitions.
The team was made up with girls from Mid Argyll, Campbeltown and Islay/Jura. This was the first time the players had all played together on a full pitch.
With a strong start, Mid Argyll remained in the opposition’s half for the first exchanges but failed to make any scores.
North Glasgow scored the first two tries of the game. The girls did not let their heads go down and pulled together and the tries started to flow.
Mid Argyll opened the scoring with a strong run and try from Maisie.
The game opened up with tries starting to come with scores from Belle, Maisie and Louise. It was a display of great flowing attacking rugby from both sides.
The first half finished 24 –17 to the home team.
Mid Argyll continued with great attacking and stretched the game with tries coming from quick play from the break down.
The newly formed forward pack worked tirelessly all game, controlling the break down and allowing some fluid expansive rugby.
In the final quarter of the game Mid Argyll had developed a two-try lead and appeared to have the game won. The team appeared to relax and as fatigue set in Glasgow North hit back with three tries in secession taking a 51 –50 lead.
The girls rallied and made their way up the pitch pushing for a final score. The game became frantic with some great crash lines and defiant defence.
Chloe Hill called for the ball on the blind side, the play switched catching Glasgow North out and Chloe manged to step one player and squeeze over the try line between two helpless defenders.
The game finished 57-51 after Belle converted the final score. Tries were from Belle (3), Maisie (3), Louise (1), Ciara 1(), Chloe (1). Belle converted six of her nine conversions. Player of the day was awarded to Maisie.
